Dan’s Favorites

  • Qatar Airways

Out of 50+ flights with Qatar Airways, Dan has never had a bad experience. The service is always top notch, and 50% of the time it is so good that you’ll never want to leave. Their Qsuite is revolutionary and perfect for all types of travelers, including families, and their hub at Doha Hamad Airport is convenient and modern. Quality is a core value of the airline, and it’s evident in everything they do.

  • Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is worthy of a top spot due to their consistency. Their service and seats are excellent in every cabin class, and they operate from a world-leading hub at Changi Airport. There is so much to love, from the delicious catering and the Singaporean hospitality to the embedded cultural elements and fantastic hard-product. This is an airline to seek out whenever possible!

  • ANA (All Nippon Airlines)

ANA quickly became one of Dan’s favorites, although he hasn’t flown them as many times as the other top two airlines (so far). The Japanese hospitality is unparalleled, accompanied by delicious catering and copious amenities. Their business class and economy class alike are industry-leading, as are their hubs at Tokyo Haneda and Narita.

Dan Loves

  • Emirates

Emirates is a fantastic airline. Their first class and economy class are truly worthy of a top spot ranking in Dan’s Favorites, but unfortunately their sub-par business class and hub airport bring them down. Still, if you are looking to travel in first or economy, you can’t go wrong with Emirates.

  • Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is undoubtedly one of the best airlines serving the European and Middle Eastern markets with unbeatable onboard catering. However, their seats are unremarkable, as is their service much of the time. This, together with their oversized hub airport in Istanbul, prevents them from being ranked among Dan’s favorites, but they are still one of the best choices in many cases.

  • Dan is Finnair's new business class seat called "AirLounge".

    Finnair

Dan has always loved Finnair, but the introduction of their business class “AirLounge” seat took them to another level. Their service is industry-leading in Europe, along with their high-quality catering from Helsinki and their fantastic Platinum Wing.

  • China Airlines

China Airlines is an underrated airline with an impressive experience throughout. Their cabin design is Dan’s favorite in the world, and their seats are spacious and comfortable in both economy and business class. Their catering and hub are also top-notch. Sadly the service is often somewhat indifferent and cold, preventing them from being ranked among Dan’s favorites.

  • EVA Air

EVA Airlines is known as a hidden gem in the frequent flyer world, and for a good reason. Their business class has many elements that you’d expect in first class, from expensive champagne to Rimowa amenities. Dan has never flown their economy class, but just like on China Airlines, he found the service to be slightly indifferent and detached.

  • Dan sitting in Gulf Air business class.

    Gulf Air

Dan flew Gulf Air for the first time in 2022 and was impressed by the onboard experience. Their service structure resembles some of the world’s best airlines, and their 787 business-class seat is excellent. Sadly their IT and customer service are not top-notch.

  • Oman Air

Oman Air is a lesser-known Middle Eastern airline that almost has what it takes to rank in the top. Their seats on the 787 and A330 are phenomenal, as is their brand new hub airport in Muscat. There is something more personal about flying a smaller airline like Oman Air, and visiting the country of Oman on your layover is a nice bonus.

Dan Avoids

  • Iberia

Dan had an acceptable experience on his first Iberia long-haul business class flight. Since then, he has discovered just how bad their service can get. For example, they hang up their phone lines after putting you on hold for five minutes. This has happened a dozen times at this point. They also respond to customer service issues with “No reply” emails, meaning there is no way to object or continue your complaint.

  • SAS

Dan’s national airline is, unfortunately, one to avoid due to their terrible service. Whether onboard or via their phone lines, SAS has among the worst service of any full-service airline in the world. The staff is consistently rude, incompetent and unhelpful.
