Spacious rooms at a quality chain-hotel, without many bells and whistles.

What to Expect at Hyatt Centric Times Square?

We are back in Times Square for another favorite among our hotel booking clients: the Hyatt Centric Times Square. You might think, Dan, why do you keep coming back to Times Square even though you hate it? Well, the truth is, many of the best hotel deals in the city are around here, so I’m curious to keep trying to find the best options in a decent price range. I have already reviewed the W Times Square, the EDITION Times Square, the Kimpton Era, and the Kimpton Theta Times Square, among others. We’ve had great feedback on the Hyatt Centric Times Square from previous clients, so I was curious to give it a try for myself.

We paid exactly $300 for our night here in the middle of August, which is one of the cheapest times to visit New York. In general, you can expect a stay here to cost between $250 and $600 a night, but we generally find that the high-end Times Square hotels lean toward the lower end of that price range. Keep in mind that this hotel is part of Hyatt Privé, which comes with all the associated benefits, such as:

  • a $50 breakfast credit per person, for up to 2 people

  • a $50 property credit

  • a space-available upgrade

  • space-available early check-in and late checkout

  • and more

Does the hotel deliver enough to offer decent value? Let’s find out!

Hyatt Centric Times Square Lobby and Check-In Experience

After staying at a few boutique properties, pulling up to the Hyatt Centric felt like coming back to the traditional hotel world. That said, this building was originally built to be residences, so the lobby reflects that.

We were greeted by an incredibly friendly front desk agent who was in an unusually good mood by New York standards. She checked us in in no time and gave us a room on the 35th floor, which was appreciated.

This hotel has quite a few room categories, which is a refreshing contrast from many hotels in the city. We booked a king bedroom, and we got a king bedroom. The main thing that differs between room categories is the view.

Hyatt Centric Times Square Room Features and Amenities

On entering our room, just like in the lobby, I was immediately struck by how much it had that hotel chain feeling. If you stay at a lot of hotels, that’s a good feeling. It’s like coming home!

The first impression of the room is that it feels spacious and modern.

From the hallway, we see our drawers and a desk with a proper desk chair. Much appreciated! There’s also some conveniently placed charging above that.

The room has a large, super comfortable king bed with two nightstands, which unfortunately don’t have any storage inside.

Finally, along the window, there is a chair with a small table, great for reading, relaxing, or throwing all your clothes on.

Underneath the desk, we’ve got an empty refrigerator, something that we really appreciate, because how often do we use the minibar? Never! The hotel also offers microwaves on request, which is good to know.

There’s also a safe here and a coffee machine. Beside that, we’ve got three large drawers, and when it comes to storage, this room doesn’t disappoint.

In the hallway, there is a massive closet with room for several suitcases. I’m sure they provide more hangers on request.

The bathroom here feels like a very standard US hotel bathroom, but again, it’s pretty spacious and practical.

We’ve got a rainfall shower and a handheld shower. All in all, this is a well-appointed, comfortable, and modern room.

On the day of check-out, I managed to get a tour of a few of the other room types at the hotel to get a better sense of what else is on offer.

The first room I saw was a standard suite, which was remarkably spacious for New York.

The bathroom was almost identical to ours, but you also have a living room that is the same size as the bedroom, so there is plenty of space to spread out. Up to four guests can stay in this room.

Next was a Times Square view suite, which is actually slightly smaller. The main benefit is, as the name suggests, the view.

Finally, I checked out one of the double rooms, which can also accommodate up to four guests pretty comfortably. This is great for families and, again, feels pretty spacious.

Hyatt Centric Times Square Gym

In New York, the gym is always an anticipated amenity for me to explore. You can have everything from the worst gym you’ve seen in your life to a pretty decent one. Of course, nothing would beat what The CIVILIAN Hotel does with its gym partnership, offering access to a full commercial gym!

hyatt-centric-times-square-fitness-center-weight-bench-cable-machine.jpg

Hyatt Centric Times Square gym equipment

Well, the Hyatt Centric Times Square has a perfectly passable gym. It’s not the most well-equipped, but it’s spacious, pretty bright, and has a large emphasis on cardio, which I guess is needed because who wants to take an outdoor run through Times Square? Not me! As is often the case in these hotel gyms, the dumbbells go up to 50 lbs.

Hyatt Centric Times Square Rooftop Bar 54

When it comes to dining, this hotel is pretty limited. The standout feature is the rooftop bar, Bar 54.

I also took some photos of their menu for your reference.

They claim it’s the highest hotel rooftop in New York, and as that promise would suggest, the views are absolutely breathtaking! This is worth a visit whether or not you’re staying at the hotel, but keep in mind that you can use your $50 Hyatt Privé credit here.

Hyatt Centric Times Square T45 Market

In addition, they’ve got their downstairs T45 Market, which is part grab-and-go, part deli. Your breakfast credit can be applied toward food here or toward room service breakfast.

Where is Hyatt Centric Times Square Located?

What about the location? As far as Times Square goes, this isn’t even one of the better locations, since you’re on the east side of Times Square. That means you have slightly worse access to public transportation, yet you’re still in the most hectic part of town. If I could choose, I’d much rather stay at a hotel along 8th Avenue, like the InterContinental Times Square.

hyatt-centric-times-square-street-exterior-times-square.jpg

Hyatt Centric Times Square street view

Who is this hotel for? People who want a spacious, comfortable stay without luxury bells and whistles at a reasonable price in New York. I would definitely recommend this hotel to clients if it’s in their price range, especially if they’re looking to earn points with Hyatt!

  • Proper desk with a real desk chair and convenient charging and a workspace upgrade over boutique alternatives

  • Location is on the east side of Times Square, meaning worse subway access while still being in the most hectic part of town — reviewer says he'd rather be on 8th Avenue (e.g., InterContinental Times Square)

  • Positioned as solid and comfortable rather than a true luxury experience, no standout "bells and whistles"
