A classic address with strong fundamentals, held back by underwhelming dining

What to expect at Four Seasons Singapore?

The Four Seasons Singapore sits on Orchard Road, one of the city's most central and well-connected addresses. It is also, by global standards, one of the most affordably priced Four Seasons properties. We paid USD 450 for one night, slightly above the annual average of USD 430, with rates typically ranging from USD 380 to USD 510. The hotel regularly offers third or fourth night free deals through travel advisors, which makes longer stays particularly compelling.

Our booking through a travel advisor included a USD 100 property credit, complimentary breakfast, early check-in, and late checkout confirmed at 4:00 PM. We were upgraded from a Garden View to a City View room, Room 1105. All of this came at the same price as booking directly through the hotel.

This was our third Four Seasons stay in this review series, following Athens and Kuala Lumpur. Coming in with that context, and with high expectations for the brand, the Singapore property turned out to be one of the most nuanced hotels we have reviewed. There is a lot to love here. There is also a lot that surprises us, and not always in a good way.

four Seasons Singapore lobby & check-in experience

Unfortunately, things didn’t start on a high note.

The arrival was the most disappointing check-in we have had at a Four Seasons to date. We got out of the car and the staff actively looked away. There were many people standing at the entrance, but there was no welcome at all. When we reached reception, we were told to help ourselves to a welcome beverage at the counter. For context, we have had warmer arrivals at hotels that cost $70 per night in Thailand, where staff bring a cold towel and a drink to greet you. The first impression matters enormously, and this one missed the mark entirely.

Four Seasons Singapore Room Features and amenities

Things improved significantly once we got to Room 1105. For a standard room in one of the most real-estate-constrained cities in the world, the space is remarkable. The room is larger than our room at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Athens, which is a resort property far outside the city. Ceilings are approximately three to three-and-a-half metres high, creating an airy, generous feeling throughout.

There’s a vanity area for getting ready, although the lighting isn’t ideal. Instead, a couch comfortably fits two people, while a table with two chairs serves as both a dining surface and a working area, making it genuinely useful for eating in or sitting down to work.

The in-room tech is solid, with a Samsung TV paired with a familiar-feeling remote, along with both Chromecast and Apple TV built in. There’s also a Bose speaker provided, although we didn’t end up using it, and a paper room service menu, which is a nice touch in an era where QR codes have become the default.

Storage is limited to a single closet, but it’s supplemented by two luggage racks, which help make things more workable. Inside the closet, you’ll find the usual in-room essentials including umbrellas, an iron and ironing board, a safe, shoehorn, shoe brush, laundry bags, and slippers.

Around the room, connectivity is well covered with global power outlets positioned throughout, including next to the bed, along with USB-C and USB-A ports. There are additional UK sockets on the opposite side of the room, more global outlets near the table, and even an ethernet port for those who need a wired connection.

The minibar is fairly well stocked, featuring complimentary Four Seasons-branded water alongside a selection of paid premium options, including Acqua Panna. There are also some snack items, including plant-based dark chocolate almonds and nötter. The coffee setup consists of a Lavazza machine paired with a Tefal kettle, while tea drinkers get a selection of six Monogram teas, which is a nice touch. Above the minibar, a small decorative heritage-inspired Singaporean piece adds a bit of local character to the space.

The bed is exactly what you’d expect from the brand: excellent. The Four Seasons bed lives up to its reputation again. A pillow menu is available with 10 options. We selected the hypoallergenic feather pillow, described as plush and the softest on offers.

Lighting design around the headboard was particularly well executed, allowing full control from the bed itself. The only real downside is the air-condition positioning on one side of the bed, which blows a bit directly toward our face. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable enough to slightly impact sleep comfort.

The bathroom is the first thing you see when entering the room, and it immediately draws you in. It’s modern, clean, and very well laid out, with two sinks offering plenty of counter space, a large soaking tub with armrests, and a separate rainfall shower with a footstool. A makeup mirror, thoughtfully placed towel racks, and pre-set bath mats round out a space that feels genuinely well considered.

Toiletries are from Grown Alchemist, which is a nice touch—we’d easily take these over the Diptyque products used at some other properties in this series. The hotel also uses liquid hand soap instead of bar soap, which we always prefer.

You’ll find the usual amenities, including a shower cap and dental kits with fluoride-free toothpaste, though there’s no mouthwash, which feels like a miss at this level. The hair dryer is from Valera (a Swiss brand), but performance is underwhelming and not what you’d expect from a Four Seasons.

As for towels, they’re of the less absorbent variety, which comes down to personal preference, but didn’t quite work for us. One feature we did like, though, is that TV audio is piped into the bathroom, so you can keep listening while getting ready small detail, but well executed.

Four Seasons Singapore Room 1105 View

From Room 1105, the view over Marina Bay Sands is the best we have had in any Singapore hotel stay. The three towers of Marina Bay Sands dominate the skyline, with a fourth currently under construction. At night, the view is particularly stunning. It is the kind of view that makes you want to simply sit and look. This alone adds significant value to the stay and is a key reason we would recommend requesting a city view room when booking.

Four Seasons Singapore Dining Experience

The breakfast buffet at the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore offers a fairly wide selection across multiple cuisines and initially comes across as strong in terms of variety. There are also gluten-free options available, along with a vegan breakfast set, although the vegan offering is very Western in style, which isn’t really our preference in Singapore.

Where it falls short is in execution. For a city like Singapore, and for a Four Seasons, the overall quality simply doesn’t quite match the ambition of the spread. In fact, this ended up being one of the weaker hotel breakfast buffets we’ve had in the city.

The one saving grace is the kitchen's willingness to accommodate requests: we asked for sliced avocado and it appeared without fuss. Small touches like that help, but overall, this is an area where the hotel could be meaningfully improved.

Room service ended up being the most disappointing meal of the stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore. We ordered a cauliflower steak with mole, spicy tofu and coconut soup, and rice, for approximately SGD 145 in total. Our USD 100 hotel credit covered most of it. The tofu dish was remarkably flavorless. The cauliflower steak was underwhelming. The only highlight was the coconut soup, which was good. In a city with some of the best food in the world available through delivery apps, room service at this level of quality and price is a hard sell.

Four Seasons Singapore Gym, Pool and Spa

The Four Seasons Singapore has one of the best hotel gyms we’ve seen so far in this review series, even if it requires a short walk outside the main building to access. The facility itself more than makes up for it, with a premium setup and a noticeably well-designed space. It feels closer to a high-end fitness club than a typical hotel gym, with thoughtful touches throughout.

There’s also an InBody scanner with printout capability, along with small but appreciated details like cold towels, complimentary drinks, electrolytes, and equipment loans. The overall design is elevated as well, with greenery incorporated throughout the space and a layout that feels both functional and inviting.

On the third floor, there is a quiet adults-only lap pool with sun chairs and a jacuzzi in the corner, which we particularly liked. A family pool is also available. The rooftop pool adds another dimension and is impressively positioned for city views. For a city hotel, this is an excellent pool offering.

The spa is another highlight, particularly the sauna, which is set to 81°C and features a surprisingly well-executed star-lit ceiling effect with adjustable lighting. The changing rooms are also well appointed, with Dyson hair dryers and quality amenities, and the overall atmosphere in the spa area feels calm and well considered.

Where is Four Seasons Singapore Located?

Four Seasons Singapore is located at Orchard Road, easily one of the best hotel locations in Singapore for visitors. Everything is right at your doorstep, from shopping and dining to excellent transit connections, making it an incredibly convenient base for a stay in the city.

The Grand Hyatt Singapore is just a short five-minute walk away, along with countless restaurants and other hotels in the area. It’s a location where everything you need is immediately accessible.

Is the Service Good at the Four Seasons Singapore?

Service was the category that surprised us most, and not in a good way. At the Four Seasons, you arrive with an expectation of exceptional service built over decades of brand reputation. What we experienced was largely reactive rather than proactive. No one addressed us by name. The arrival, as described, felt like we were not particularly welcome. In the room and around the property, staff would help if asked, but that warm anticipatory quality we associate with the Four Seasons brand was mostly absent.

There were moments of good service. The hotel accepted delivery of our Grab food order to the room, which the vast majority of hotels would not do, and that was a helpful touch.

Turndown service was functional: a floor mat was placed out, water bottles were set on the bedside tables, and the ice bucket was filled. Minimal, but clean and considered.

Four Seasons Singapore Scoring Breakdown

Scoring Notes:

  • Room (8/10): Remarkably large for a standard room in Singapore, stunning city view of Marina Bay Sands, beautiful local design character, and high ceilings. Not the most spectacular room we have reviewed, but still a solid and premium offering.

  • Bathroom(9/10): Modern, clean, well-equipped. Missing a bum gun and could benefit from more natural light. But the shower and bath setup is excellent and the Grown Alchemist toiletries are a highlight.

  • Night's Sleep (8/10): The Four Seasons bed delivers again, with a pillow menu and beautiful lighting design. AC airflow on one side of the bed was a recurring issue. A 10 for many guests.

  • Value for Money (8/10): At USD 450 with a USD 100 credit, complimentary breakfast, and a confirmed 4PM checkout, this is exceptional value for the Four Seasons brand, particularly given the room size and gym quality.

  • Breakfast(7/10): Extensive spread across multiple cuisines, good flexibility for dietary requests, but the overall quality falls short for Singapore. Borders on a 6.

  • Condition(9/10): The room and facilities are in excellent shape. The lobby area shows some age, and the bathtub base has light wear, but overall the property is beautifully maintained.

  • Service(3/5): A cold arrival, no name recognition, and a reactive rather than proactive service culture. Staff are helpful when asked, but the warmth expected from the Four Seasons brand was largely missing.

  • Dining(2/5): Room service was one of the most flavorless meals of this review series. The breakfast buffet was similarly underwhelming by Singapore standards. The city's broader dining scene makes in-hotel food feel less relevant here, but the quality should still be higher.

  • Location(5/5): Orchard Road. Perfect.

  • Amenities (3/5): Grown Alchemist toiletries and liquid soap are highlights. The Valera hair dryer is a significant downgrade. Non-absorbent towels and no in-room steamer bring the score down. The Dyson in the spa changing room is where guests should go instead.

  • Wellness / Gym (5/5): One of the best hotel gyms we have reviewed. HOIST equipment, dumbbells to 50kg, InBody scanner, complimentary drinks, and a beautiful sauna with star ceiling.

  • Pool (4/5): Adults-only lap pool with jacuzzi, family pool, and rooftop pool. Excellent for a city hotel.

  • X Factor(6/10): A lovely stay, but no wow. The view and the gym are highlights. The service and food experiences dampen the overall feeling. We would likely return to the Grand Hyatt Singapore, a five-minute walk away, next time.

Is Four Season singapore worth it?

The Four Seasons Singapore earns a 77 out of 100, which puts it above most hotels we have reviewed while keeping it outside our top 10 worldwide. The score reflects a hotel with truly impressive hardware - a room that defies expectations for Singapore, a gym that sets a new standard for this series, and a location that cannot be faulted. But it also reflects a service culture that did not match the brand promise, a breakfast and room service that fall well below what Singapore and the Four Seasons name should deliver. Even smaller details such as a hair dryer offering is simply not acceptable at this price point.

The comparison we kept returning to is the Grand Hyatt Singapore, just five minutes away. Typically cheaper, rooms of similar scale, double sinks in the bathroom, and a breakfast that puts this one to shame. That comparison is not a reason to avoid the Four Seasons Singapore, but it is an honest reason why this hotel does not generate the pull we feel toward our favorite properties in this series. If you are booking, do it through a travel advisor. The hotel credit, breakfast, confirmed late checkout, and upgrade make an already accessible price feel like exceptional value. The room and the view alone are worth it. See how this compares to our other Four Seasons reviews or browse our best value luxury hotel picks.
